Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh..
A few days ago, there was a debate on title “Human Traits are determined by Nature” in our class for Social Studies course. The opposition team won. I was one of the reviewers, sat at the back of the jury. The debate was quite interesting because their points ‘managed’ to trigger my mind.
CAUTION: I had just finished my subject-verb agreement, a part on LDS course. So, if I make a mistake(s), please inform, ya!!
On the way to the class, I walked with one of the debaters of the government side. She asked me about the debate. Based on her research on the internet, she found that the argument about this topic has never ended between them.
Well, actually I don't really know about their argument, based on what and whatsoever. But, I do really want to challenge myself, to think critically because me myself not 'selected' as a debater, so for sure I will never 'investigate' the topic by myself.
This morning, after cooking some sausage with Rain, Lin and Lis, I and Kak Ita went to our senior's house at Taman Nine. huk2.. after grabbed 2 slice of sardine bread (erk..ada ke istilah ni?), we rushed to her house, leaving those three 'anak dara' cooked for their 'direct selling' at hostel.
Actually, my senior was third year student of Special Education for Deaf student and she gave us the idea of ISK. The ISK(Ini Sejarah Kita) is about knowing our root. Who are we? And many thing like that.
My senior asked, are we going to finish up our study here in IPG and only teach our schoolchildren? In other words, is it worth to 'waste' five and a half years to be only a teacher? If we talk about medic, yes, it is worth. So, what we are supposed to do in order to not 'wasting' our time?
I don't really get what she tried to convey but yet, I do really what did she means. Our education system is basically with influence of British. When British came to our country, they brought they ideology; gold, gospel and glory. That is what we had learnt when we were in school, right? So, they had 'imported' the Chinese, mostly from Canton and Indian to be the workers at mines and estates. But, do we know that there were no Muslim brought here? If yes, why? And if no, try to dig it.
As a student at teacher training college, I don't really busy like what engineering and medic students used to be(with the tutorials, quiz and unexpected exam), only at certain time I get busy with the assignment but mostly we get nothing to do except facebooking, twittering, blogging(just like now), and hanging around JJ and Tesco. So, my senior stressed us about what teacher we are going to be. Are we just deliver the information without keep into the students' mind the real concept, of what Allah teach, of what Rasulullah did and uttered during the past time through his hadeeth.
Okay, we get back to the topic.
The government team thinking that the nature is the determiner of human traits because nature is essential. But, for me, I am prefer to give an example. Let say clay. The clay is made from clay. (hehe..betullah kan??). You ‘nurture’ it by shaping it. So, that is what i see on this topic. Nature and nurture is related.
Just like the Playdoh. We shape onto it until we get the shape that we want. There is a saying goes; a child is like a white cloth, the parents is responsible to make its pattern and the color. I am not sure whether it is hadeeth or not, if it is, please inform me. I am really appreciate that as I am still in learning process about my religion, okay?
p/s : I suggest to all of you to switch on the radio at 6.30 am on the weekdays on IKIM.fm, the tafseer alQuran by Ustaz Zahazan Mohamad. And also walkman by Sony, really helpful with the recording application. its price is about RM160 and has 1 year guarantee.
